Mental health screening at your local grocery store?

There could be a free way to get a mental health screening - while you're doing your grocery shopping, that is.

As CBS Philly Health Reporter Stephanie Stahl reports, a kiosk at a Philadelphia store now offers a quick and easy way for people to get privately screened for mental health problems like anxiety, substance abuse or depression.

"Taking away the stigma of mental health and offering help that’s user friendly," Stahl said about the logic behind the kiosk.

Answer a few questions, get a recommendation

The kiosk is provided by the city's Department of Behavioral Health, and it works by having people answer a series of questions. Then, the kiosk does an instant assessment. If a mental health problem is suspected, the kiosk will provide a range of recommendations.

“We envision a world where mental health is viewed and treated with the same gravity as physical health,” said Candice Porter, from Screening for Mental Health, Inc., the company that developed the kiosk.
