Poor Mental Health Found in 2 out of 5 Europeans

According to a study carried out by researchers at Dresden University of Technology in Germany, nearly two-fifths of Europeans suffer from some sort of mental health condition. The study, which looked at people from 30 countries in Europe, also found that and concluded that only about one in three of people with poor mental health receive treatment for their condition. The study was published by the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology.

The Study

  • The research looked at around 514 million people, and included anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, insomnia, depression, and addiction.
  • Anxiety, insomnia, and depression are the most common disorders.
  • Men and women have similar rates of mental illness overall, but they tend to suffer from different disorders. Women, for example, are significantly more likely to be depressed.
  • Since 2005, there has been no increase in the rate of psychological illness. Unfortunately, there has also been no increase in the rate of treatment for mental health disorders.
